A new westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) exit ramp to westbound Maitland Boulevard (State Road 414) is scheduled to open for the morning commute on Friday, June 9. Weather conditions may require a weekend opening.
Motorists will exit westbound I-4 from the same location; however after exiting westbound I-4, a decision will need to be made sooner on the off ramp to continue on to westbound Maitland Boulevard or on to northbound Lake Destiny Road. Motorists that stay to the left on this off ramp will continue toward westbound Maitland Boulevard. Motorists that stay to the right on this off ramp will continue toward northbound Lake Destiny Road. An illustration of the new ramp is available online at fdot.tips/SR414.
Near the end of the ramp to westbound Maitland Boulevard, motorists will cross over the future westbound Maitland Boulevard. A traffic signal at the end of the ramp will allow motorists to safely continue on to the current westbound Maitland Boulevard. Later this year, the new westbound Maitland Boulevard travel lanes will open, and this exit ramp will continuously flow onto Maitland Boulevard without a traffic signal.
This new ramp at the Maitland Boulevard interchange is the eighth temporary ramp configuration to open at the interchange since last year. Of the 15 major interchanges undergoing reconstruction as part of the 21-mile I-4 Ultimate project, the Maitland Boulevard interchange has some of the most noticeable changes in traffic patterns. The project is elevating Maitland Boulevard, adding ramp access points and eliminating select traffic signals to promote better traffic flow. Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Up-to-date information of the ramp opening will be available on i4Ultimate.com/alertsmap. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.
