WB I-4 From Ivanhoe Boulevard to Livingston Street Shifted to Permanent Configuration

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) completed another major traffic shift in June, moving general use lanes on westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) between Ivanhoe Boulevard and Livingston Street into their final footprint. The mile-long shift puts more than two-thirds — just over 14 miles — of the westbound I-4 general use lanes into their final configuration.

With this shift, three I-4 ramps also opened in their final footprints. A new westbound I-4 exit to Colonial Drive (State Road 50) is now open to motorists, just after passing Ivanhoe Boulevard. The newly rebuilt westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Colonial Drive (S.R. 50), which closed in February, also opened in its final configuration.

Please view or download a map to see the new configuration of the area.

In addition, the westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Ivanhoe Boulevard is now in its final footprint. Motorists entering westbound I-4 from Ivanhoe Boulevard will continue to drive through the Colonial Drive interchange and enter the interstate from the new Colonial Drive ramp instead of entering from Amelia Street. The new configuration of these two interchanges was designed to reduce weaving in this area.

The traffic shift on I-4 and accompanying ramp openings are part of one of the 12 work zones in which FDOT was able to accelerate work during the decreased volume in traffic.

Remaining stretches of westbound I-4 yet to move into their final footprint total fewer than seven miles, and just over two miles of eastbound I-4 remain.

Multiple Ramps on I-4 Ultimate Open in Final Configuration

The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) I-4 Ultimate project continues making significant progress along Interstate 4 (I-4) as additional segments open in their final configurations.

Getting to Sandspur Road from eastbound I-4 got easier.

Crews opened a new eastbound I-4 exit ramp to Sandspur Road (Exit 90) Friday, June 19. The new ramp was the final step in completing the reconfiguration of all ramps at the free-flowing Maitland Boulevard (State Road 414) interchange. To view the new configuration, please view or download this map.

I-4 at Maitland Boulevard isn't the only interchange along the corridor that has recently seen significant progress.

On May 22, the westbound I-4 entrance ramp from eastbound State Road (S.R.) 434 reopened after it was closed for six weeks. The ramp reopening is a milestone for the I-4 and S.R. 434 interchange as each ramp is now in its final alignment.

Construction of the westbound entrance ramp from S.R. 434 was completed 1–2 months earlier than previously scheduled following Governor Ron DeSantis’ directive to accelerate work on the I-4 Ultimate project.

As closures and shifts continue, it is important for motorists to pay extra attention to signage as familiar routes may have changed. Drivers should avoid distractions, adjust their speed, and allow plenty of extra time to navigate the I-4 Ultimate work zone.

Modifications or extensions to these schedules may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are encouraged to follow @I4Ultimate on Twitter or visit I4Ultimate.com for updates.

Eastbound I-4 Lanes between Orange Blossom Trail to Kaley Avenue Shifted to New Pavement

Another portion of I-4 Ultimate shifted onto newly constructed general use lanes.

The eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) ramp system between Orange Blossom Trail (US-441/17-92) and Kaley Avenue shifted Friday, June 19.

The decision point of the ramp system is approximately 1,000 feet sooner, just after crossing over Rio Grande Avenue. Motorists can keep right to exit to Orange Blossom Trail (Exit 80 AB) and stay left to continue to the exit to Kaley Avenue (Exit 81).

Motorists entering eastbound I-4 from northbound Orange Blossom Trail will follow the ramp system for nearly one mile and enter the interstate after crossing Michigan Street.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone and only use hands-free devices while driving.

Westbound I-4 Exit to State Road 434 Shifted to Temporary Configuration

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) temporarily relocated the westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) exit to State Road (S.R.) 434 (Exit 94) Wednesday, June 17. Motorists now need to exit westbound I-4 onto a combined exit with the rest area. Drivers will continue west, parallel to I-4, to the exit to S.R. 434.

Please view or download this handout for more information. This temporary alignment is scheduled to be in place through July 2020.

As closures and detours continue, it is important for motorists to pay extra attention to signage, as familiar routes may have changed. Drivers should avoid distractions, adjust their speed, and allow plenty of extra time to navigate the I-4 Ultimate work zone.

Modifications or extensions to these schedules may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Update: Continuous Closures throughout I‑4 Ultimate

This summer, continuous closures and shifts will be necessary to continue work in several key areas on the I-4 Ultimate project.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) shifted eastbound State Road (S.R.) 436 over Interstate 4 (I-4), including the turn lanes from westbound S.R. 436 onto westbound I-4.

The temporary shift was necessary to continue work on the S.R. 436 pedestrian tunnel.

For more information about the shift, please view or download this handout.

As a reminder, the following closures are ongoing:

  • The outside lane on Anderson Street from Division Avenue to the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp is closed through October. This closes eastbound Anderson St. access to eastbound I-4. Detour Map
  • Both directions of South Street under I-4 are closed until early July. Handout
  • The westbound I-4 entrance from Colonial Drive is scheduled to reopen this fall. Handout
  • The eastbound S.R. 408 ramp to Orange Avenue is scheduled to reopen this fall. Handout
