Employee Spotlight: Rodell Wilson

Rodell Wilson remembers playing with Tonka toy trucks when he was a child. Now he gets to work with the real things as a heavy equipment operator on the I-4 Ultimate project. Check out how he has helped build a better Interstate 4 (I-4).

On the Move: How SPUIs Are Improving Traffic Flow

The single-point urban interchange (SPUI) at State Road (S.R.) 436 above Interstate 4 (I-4) is an entirely new traffic movement on the interstate that some drivers may still be adjusting to.

The SPUI at the S.R. 436 and I-4 interchange was installed in December 2020 as part of the I-4 Ultimate project. The new configuration allows opposing left-hand traffic movements to proceed simultaneously, controlled by a single traffic signal. The SPUI also maximizes available space and allows vehicles to pass through the interchange more efficiently, so traffic moves at a faster pace.

Another SPUI was also installed on Colonial Drive (S.R. 50) under I-4 in December with similar traffic movements.

Check out the video to learn about how this new traffic pattern works. Please keep in mind that construction at this intersection is ongoing. Remember to follow pavement markings and signs and be mindful of crews in the work zone.
