Mobility Week Highlights Transportation Options in Central Florida

Roadway projects such as I-4 Ultimate are improving safety and mobility through Central Florida, but area residents can also choose from a range of smart transportation alternatives.

Mobility Week, which will be observed this year from October 29 to November 5, is a cooperative effort by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and its partners to promote awareness of safe, multimodal transportation choices. During Mobility Week, cities, counties, and transportation agencies across the state highlight those choices with a series of events and initiatives.

Since the statewide introduction of Mobility Week three years ago, FDOT and its partners have hosted more than 300 events across 67 counties to share information on travel choices available to the public including transit, walking, bicycling, and ridesharing. For a list of events in your area, browse the Mobility Week calendar.

If you’re ready to try new transportation options, consider participating in the Love to Ride bicycling challenge, which kicks off October 29. For more information about how to participate and register, visit www.lovetoride.net/florida.

I-4 Ultimate Transforms Maitland Boulevard Interchange

The I-4 Ultimate improvement project has completely reconstructed the Interstate 4 (I-4) and Maitland Boulevard (State Road 414) interchange. Not only does the interchange feature free-flowing loop ramps to reduce backups onto I-4, but Maitland Boulevard has also been elevated over Keller Road, Lake Destiny Road, and Maitland Summit Boulevard, eliminating traffic signals along the way. Auxiliary lanes and ramps also provide better access to and from these local roads and Maitland Boulevard. The interchange also will feature a pedestrian bridge that spans over the interstate to connect the east and west sides of the Maitland community.

Watch the video and view this handout for more details about completed improvements.
