Multiple closures will be necessary this weekend to implement shifts on the I-4 Ultimate project.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is closing westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) from Michigan Street to Orange Blossom Trail (U.S. 441/17-92) and the westbound I-4 entrance ramp from Kaley Avenue overnight from 10 p.m. Sunday, September 20, to 5 a.m. Monday, September 21. The closure is necessary to install an overhead sign.
Drivers on I-4 will be routed off I-4 to exit on Michigan Street (Exit 81) and re-enter westbound I-4 from Orange Blossom Trail. Drivers entering I-4 from Kaley Avenue will also be detoured to Orange Blossom Trail.
Additionally, a new westbound I-4 exit ramp to southbound Orange Blossom trail is opening, placing the ramp in its final configuration. Replacing the left-hand exit to southbound Orange Blossom Trail with a more traditional right-hand exit improves safety and meets motorists’ expectations. The longer, free-flowing ramp also creates additional space for drivers to slow down as they exit the interstate. An additional lane from Orange Blossom Trail to John Young Parkway also will be added as part of the shift.
Orange Blossom Trail under I-4 and multiple ramps will close to implement the shifts.
All motorists are urged to avoid distractions, follow posted signage, and drive safely.
Modifications or extensions to these schedules may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are encouraged to follow @I4Ultimate on Twitter or visit I4Ultimate.com for updates.
